Jens Biedermann
Is a dedicated mover. When he was still a child he was involved in dance and movement, thanks to his parents.
As a teenager he loved sports and music and finally rediscovered dance and began to explore the artistic side of movement.
For several years he was a freelance dancer in the Netherlands, where he worked with the Hans Hof Ensemble, Andre Gingras and other Netherland-based companies. These groups worked a lot with improvisation and the creativity of the dancers and his interests turned particularly to improvisation. He worked with Nigel Charnock and Joachim Schlömer on projects that were based completely on improvisation. His background in sports, especially winter sports, accounts for an acrobatic element in his work as dancer. He is not afraid of flying, height and falling for they were common experiences in his sports career. They are elements that motivate him and the acrobatic aspect is particularly noticeable in his work with partners.
Jens Biedermann is a regular guest teacher in Dance Academies (HMD Rotterdam/NL, SEAD Salzburg/A) and professional classes in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Denmark among others. He teaches classes in contemporary dance, partnering, contact improvisation and dance improvisation. Recently he presented some of his own work, improvisation-based solos, short choreographies in community dance.
His current interests tend particularly to research regarding the language of movement.
In addition, his devotion to music is becoming increasingly evident and since he is also a musician, he combines his dancing with live music performances. This is also a field for constant research, in view of the overwhelming influence of an instrument on the performing body.
