Maestro Engaku Taino
Luigi Mario was born in Rome in 1938.He had always loved the mountains (officially entering the Cai in 1954), in 1959 he became an Alpine Guide, a qualified ski instructor in 1965, and a free climbing instructor in 1985. In 1962 he gave up his work in the bank and became manager of the Franchetti Alpine Hut at the Gran Sasso. In 1965 he was in Canada as a ski instructor. In the tumultuous years of great social experimentation and transformation he moved to Japan (1967) for a direct contact with the Zen tradition. Here too he was a ski instructor. He was accepted in the Monastery of Shofuku-ji in Kobe and became the personal valet of Roshi Yamada Mumon, who ordained him monk with the name of Engaku Taino on April 8, 1971. While in Japan he married Kiyoka in 1973 and, that same year, returned to Italy. He restored an old farmhouse previously acquired in the countryside of Orvieto: it was the beginning of Scaramuccia. His first daughter, Lea was born in 1974, then Alvise in 1976. In 1985 he received a degree in Philosophy in Padua with a thesis on Lin Chi, with Prof. Giangiorgio Pasqualotto. The rest is current history as Alpine guide/Zen monk/Yoga instructor/Tai Chi Chuan instructor.
